INDIA. Cow Riots, Delhi.
Marilyn Silverstone
November 7th, 1966. Between 100.000 and 500.000 members of the Jan Sangh, a right-wing Hindu organization, marched on the Parliamentary House to protest against the slaughtering of humback Brahma cows, considered by Hindus as sacred. Naked sadhus (holymen) squatted in the streets and raised slogans to stop "cow slaughter". 8 people died and 67 sadhus were arrested.
