French students protest against the CIP (Contrat d'Insertion Professionelle), a government proposed 'insertion contract' which allows employers to offer 3790 frs a month to people under the age of 26, or 80% of the SMIC (minimum wage scale).Pr.Min.Edouard Balladur said it would help reduce the 23% unemployment rate,giving youths the opportunity to start working.
Due to adverse public opinion, the government abolished the proposed law.
