ISRAEL. Prime Minister Golda MEIR 

Micha Bar-Am 

Born Goldie Mabovitch, in Kiev (USSR) on the 3rd May 1898, she spent most of her childhood in the State of Milwaukee in the United States, before immigrating to Palestine in 1921 where she joined the Marhovia Collective Village, and priot to that she attended college and was also a Teacher's Siminary in Milwaukee.It was there that she became a leading member of the Zionist Labour Party and was a delegate of the American ection of the World Jewish Congress.In Palestine she joined the Histadruth movement and the Mapai, and in 1939 became the Head of the Political Department of the Jewish Agency for Palestine.She was nominated Israeli Minister to the USSR from 1946-1948, and was later appointed Minister of labour and Social Insurance in 1949.During the years 1949 to 1956, she held the post of Minister for Foreign Affairs, and became mainly known for her role during the "6 day war" when she was Israeli Prime Minister from 1969 to 1974. She died in Jerusalem in 1978.
