Zygmunt Bauman is a sociologist and an author. He wrote the book "Modernity and the Holocaust" in which he attempted to demonstrate the "uniqueness and normality of the Holocaust". The conditions which made the Holocaust possible - modernity itself - are still with us and will remain so for the foreseeable future. In this way the Holocaust is the product of forces that are endemic to modern society, and as such could happen again. One could argue that events in the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda have proved this theory correct.
