Like in most Roman Catholic countries, the 1st November is celebrated as the DAY OF THE DEAD, but the unusual thing about these celebrations in Manilla (Phillipines) is not only that they become an opportunity for family gatherings, but also a time to visit the elaborate shrines, and Mausoleums, built by the wealthy and middle classes to honour their dead relatives. Some of they "laying to rest" plots are small, others are elaborate buildings sometimes with several floors, even Manisions, which require guards to protect them. Families group around the shrines, talking eating, and even spending the weekend mourning their dead.
