Paul KRUGER (1825-1904), a South African, assisted in the foundation of the Transvaal where he became president in 1883 following an insurrection against the British. After concluding an alliance with the state of Orange, he declared war against the British (Transvaal War from 1899-1902), then retired to Europe.
