The Egyptian President Anwar EL SADAT made his historic first visit to Israel from the 19th through 21 November, where he was welcomed by the Israeli Prime Minister Mr Menahem BEGIN, and both leaders attended a meeting of the Israeli Parliament (Knesset).President Sadat negotiated the return of the occupied territories in the Sinai which had been occupied by Israel since the 1967 Kippur War.
