William SAROYAN honoured in Soviet Armenia. 1976.
Ara Güler
William SAROYAN (born in 1908), the outstanding Armenian American playwright and short story writer was honoured in November 1976 at an evening ceremony in the capital Erivan of Soviet Armenia, his motherland. He does not know Armenian or Russian, and consequently he made his speaches in English, although his books are translated in both languages. His work deals with the American dream in a lyrical sense and sentimental manner. He is the author of "The Daring Young Man on the Flying Trapese", and "The Time of your Life", "My Name is Aram", and many short stories and has lived part of his life in Paris in a barely furnished falt. He is knows as the "man who likes the people on the street and the local artisans".
