On the 6th June 1982, Israel's sixth war broke out when the Israeli Defence Forces invaded Lebanon, with the aim of destroying the infrastructure of the terrorists in Southern Lebanon. The Government called the operation the PEACE OF GALILEE WAR. This war aroused severe disputes inside Israel, and the Israeli Defense Forces withdrew from Lebanon only after three years. Israel retained a security strip along the border, wher the South Lebanon Army is also active.
