The World Series was born in1903, taking place in the fall of every season between to the two top baseball teams of the year. There have only been a total of 4 times that this series has taken place between two NY teams. The first two all NYC series took place in 1921 and 1922, but technically no subway was needed since the Yankees and the Giants (now in San Francisco) shared the same stadium. In 1923 the Yankees moved to their own stadium in the Bronx for the third NYC Series, and then there was a 44-year wait for the next Subway Series to take place. The Mets, added in 1962, and the Yankees faced off in 2000 to bring the NYC World Series back much to the excitement of baseball fans throughout the city. The Yankees won their 26th Championship that year but many hope that the rematch will come again, this time without so long of a wait.
