The Yunan to Burma railway built in 1942 was laid from Lashio to Kunming stretching 620 miles. Tseng Yang-Fu was the Chinese engineer in charge of construction with Major John E. Ausland of the US Army which supplied the materials. All the work was done by hand, by over half a million Chinese workers.
