In summer and winter the Vale (valley) of Kashmir's life is centered around water, the floating market life and traders who navigate on the far shore of Srinagara's Dal Lake for its Friday Market at Hazratbal (named after the holy relic of the Prophet's piece of hair).The shikaras (skiffs) anchor in the backwaters of the lake or on the embankment of the River Jhelum which winds through the city of Srinagar.In winter it takes on a whole new aspect as the snow covers the fields and the waters are frozen.
