France's ultra fast train the TGV is part of the expansion of the grid of the SNCF the national rail network which often requires special tracks and rerouting through virgin land and territories of agricultural importance. A new link is proposed from Avignon through the Provence region to the Cote d'Azure, but many environmental groups have protested this expansion and have blockaded parts of the region through which the new route is planned.
