Al-Manar TV station was launched on June 3 , 1991. In the general overview of Lebanese state-run media, Al-Manar represented a first challenge to give Arabs a different perspective on daily news, also by means of a more modern use of graphics. Al-Manar TV opposes the trend of scheduling movies and programs which are to be considered as immoral, violent, and generally too close to the western style of living. Unlike other new Arab TVs like Al-Jazeera and Al-Arabiya, which strive to adopt a neutral tone, Al Manar does not conceal its strong committments towards the Palestinian cause, and its support to the Hizbullah guerilla group, giving open encouragement to fight the Israeli occupation in the South and West Bekaa territories.
