Peter van Agtmael
USA. NY. Brooklyn. 16 June 2021. Elaine Richards in the living room of the family room, where she lives with her husband and three children. Elaine was stricken with COVID-19 early in the pandemic along with her husband. She was bedridden and thought she would die. As she began to recover, she feared leaving the house. Though afraid of contracting Covid again, or potentially spreading it between customers, she eventually re-opened her beauty salon. Business has been difficult since reopening, with fewer customers and fewer beauticians to rent the spare workspaces. Julissa has struggled with her mental health through the pandemic. She has a deep fear of getting sick and only leaves the house for work, trauma from seeing her mother fall incredibly ill with COVID-19, frustration at the disruption of her studies, and uncertainty for the future.
