DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO. Ituri province. Drodro. 2021. 

The space where a crucifix was placed, near the main road in Drodro. People gathered at the site believing that the broken foot of the figure was bleeding. Every day the crowd grew bigger as they believed this to be a miracle and hoped that their prayers would be answered. 

The local bishop removed the arms as well to show to the crowd that the red liquid was not blood, but the oxidized inner skeleton of the statue. When the crowd did not believe the rational explanation, the bishop removed the statue with the help from local police to counter the spread of superstitious beliefs.
