Veronika in her room in Yunkyur, Olyokminsky district, a village that suffers from melting permafrost.The settlements has one of the richest agricultural traditions in the region; however, the inhabitants of these village faces serious consequences of permafrost degradation. Yunkyur marks the southern border of Permafrost region. As most villagers also her families house suffers from deformation, the floor is sinking, cracks run through the walls. One day they could suddenly hear their neighbors talking in their own house. Their basement with their stored potatoes had collapsed. The house is in disrepair. Areas suitable for construction are reduced, because of the thawing of underground glaciers. Territories affected by thermokarst also drop out of agricultural use.
