ISRAEL. Jerusalem. August 6, 2014. Deema Ramlawi, 7 years old. From Gaza City.
Deema went to her grandparents’ house to celebrate Eid with them. She was at a playground nearby when it was struck. Her grandmother and cousin were killed. She has shrapnel that entered from right side of the head/nick and is stuck in the left side. Left side of the body is currently paralyzed. Not sure what long-term impact will be. Hasn’t spoken since the incident.
St Josephs French Hospital in East Jerusalem. The hospital, owned by the Vatican, was treating the patients pro-bono. 42 had arrived since the beginning of Operation Protective Edge. 3 children have had their limbs amputated. Patients arrived after primary medical treatment. Patients received permits and came through following coordination between Israel, Red Cross, and Red Crescent. Permits are temporary and only for the hospital, meaning they cannot leave the hospital premises.
