KENYA. The Erica Forest on the upper slopes of Kilimanjaro produces more water in the streams that run down the mountain than falls in rain. The secret is in the ability of the trees to collect water from the daily mists that normally shroud the cloud forests. They constantly drip water even when there is no rain but higher temperatures in combination with forest fires and illegal logging threaten this vital natural process. 2004.
