VIETNAM. Quang Tri province. Hai Lang district. The central coastal province of Quang Tri is one of the most vulnerable to flooding in the whole of Vietnam, and Hai Lang district is the most vulnerable within the province. Climate change will bring an increased risk of disaster to Vietnam. Oxfam works in Hai Lang district, helping to train villagers to prepare for floods and storms, and how to adapt to changes.
Nguyen Thi Tien (44) and her husband Nguyen Cong Tinh (45) hold up a certificate recognising the contribution that Tien's late father played in the American War, Hai Hoa commune.
Tien: "I would be upset if I lost the certificate - I would really regret it. It's recognition by the state, so it means a lot. It has spiritual value. When the floods come I keep it in another house, otherwise it would be swept away."
"This year, we lost our rice crop because of the flood - the flood level came up 1 metre high in our home. We were sleepless all through the night - we had to evacuate all the children, and our roof was blown away."
