Martin Parr
GB. England. Southwold. Lakeside Tea Room. 'This photograph was taken on a particularly leaden day at the boating lake in Southwold, in Suffolk. Like the town, this lake is a cliche. It is like something out of a picture-book, with the flowers in the foreground and the Union Jack flying. Southwold is a typically English market town as well as a seaside resort. It is well liked by the professional middle classes as a holliday destination. The town is like a film set. Everything is perfect and absolutely charming. There are no Mc Donalds or Kentucky Fried Chickens anywhere to be seen, just traditional shops'. 1993.
