INDIA. Hyderbad. The Girka Pally community tree nursery. Here women from 65 families nuture 43,500 seedlings every 6 months. The trees are used as part of a massive project involving 108 locations, 1579 women and over 1.5 million saplings every year. The projct is co-ordinated by HUDA, no city has adopted such a policy aimed at environment enhancement not simply for cosmetic reasons but aimed more at the impact on the cities micro-climate, pollution and public health. 2002.
