Tajikistan. Nurek. 2009. Nurek Reservoir. The water that nourishes the five Central Asian post Soviet countries comes from melting glaciers and snow in the mountains of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. During Soviet times, decisions about sharing of resources were made by the central government in Moscow. The countries now dispute how the region's resources should be distributed, often suspending their flow.
