Emin Ozmen
TURKEY. Mersin. 2018. (From left to right) Rojbin, 9, Jihan, 44, Xunawa, 15 and Lawa, 14, enjoy family time at home after dinner.
They fled from Aleppo in 2014 after the bakery where Halil, 52, was working was targeted by a barrel bomb. That day, Halil lost one of his eyes and the ability to walk. After spending a few weeks near the Turkish border, they entered in Turkey from the border gate near Kilis. Once arrived in Turkey, they had no place where to stay. A Syrian friend, Adile, was then living in Mersin. He welcomed them for a week. With the help of an Imam, they found a house and settled there.
