GERMANY. Berlin. 10th April 2017. At 4 AM at Berlin central station. Connecting train to Stralsund and Sassnitz on the Baltic sea. A Russian mother and daughter with a few dogs and a giant wrapped sofa are waiting for the next train.

From the moment the train carriage entered German territory very strict rules of extraterritoriality where enforced. A chalk line separated the part where the Russians where sitting from their German accompagnying guards. Noone, except the Swiss negotiator communist Fritz Platten was allowed to cross that line either way, enter or leave the wagon. So all through Germany the Russians slept, read, discussed, disputed inside the train, and starved, since Swiss border guards had confiscated their food.
