IRAN. 2018. Somayeh, 41, housewife.
“Those who came to the streets, really they suffer. The poor, who came to express their complaints, really they can’t continue like this any more. But the protests were hijacked by opportunists like, people supporting the son of the shah and the Mudjaheddin-e Khalq. They joined forces to make Iran unsafe. Security was our strong point. Those who are aggressively against the establishment but dont have many supporters inside Iran, they wanted to make the country weak. Iran is much stronger than this. Those protesters have no agenda, no leader. It feels like a joke, when our leaders say enemies were involved, but if you look carefully you can see their footsteps in the unrest.
When protests broke out in dozens of cities in Iran recently, everybody had different opinions, but no one wanted to come in front of my camera. Afraid.
