IRAN. 2018. Roya.
These days everyone is trying to get a grip on what led to the protests in Iran. What matters what I think? As an individual I feel swept up by the current of history. I am effaced. I almost feel as if what I'm allowed to want should cater to all the parties involved: It should be what they want. The government, the ruling system, the reformists, the principlists, the hardliners, the people, the underprivileged, the intelligentsia, the middle class, the upper class, the media, the royalists, the MEK, the government of the United States, the regional powers, the international community, the list goes on...
I only know that I am part of the abstract aggregate called the Iranian people, and whatever path they have made for themselves is inevitably my path as well. In my better moments I believe that no one is to blame for how the world works. All of us humans are doing our best in this worldwide attempt at civilization.
When protests broke out in dozens of cities in Iran recently, everybody had different opinions, but no one wanted to come in front of my camera. Afraid.
