CHINA. Shenzhen. 1996. This photo shows the inside of a plant belonging to China Silk Enterprise, the six-largest garment manufacturer in China. The plant produces silk garments for women. Production is destined for export to Europe, North America and Japan. Over 1800 people are employed here. Wages have increased for workers in the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, and labor-intensive plants have begun moving to other regions.
