CAMBODIA. Phonm Penh. 1994. After the Khmer Rouge captured Phnom Penh in April 1975, they ordered all residents to leave the city and move to the countryside. The city was deserted, except for a school that was turned into an detention center. Many citizens were tortured here and then either killed on the spot or taken to the killing fields. For some reason, the Khmer executioners took photos of the persons detained here. This building today is called the Tuol Sleng Prison Museum, and the photos of many of those who died here are on display.
