GUATEMALA. Coatepeque. November 2005. AIDS patient with children, HIV positive husband, and MSF home visitation worker. According to the UN, 1.2% of Guatemalans are HIV positive. 42 new patients per month come for treatment. Six years ago, annual treatment cost $10,000. Today, a patient can be treated for less than $300 a year due to generic drugs. AIDS is particularly prevalent in the coastal areas and border towns of Guatemala.
