San Salvador. 1986. Mothers of the "Disappeared" display images of mutilated bodies that were found in the streets and photographed by the Non-Governmental Human Rights Commission of El Salvador. Cadavers were photographed for identification purposes for family members who came to the office to confirm the fate of the relatives. The office was frequently invaded and its members were arrested or "disappeared". The founder of CODEFAM, this group of family members, was herself murdered by death squads. She is represented in the poster seen in the background.
