SOUTH KOREA. Ulsan, Kyongsangnam-do. 1997. One of the main auto plants of Hyundai Motors in the Hyundai Group is located in Ulsan. The plant was built in 1967. The 1.4 million motor vehicles its 32,000 employees produced in 1996 make it number one in the world for production by a single plant. The plant exports 600,000 units a year, mainly to North America and Australia, using more than twenty car carriers to ship them. One team of sixty persons loads 300 vehicles an hour aboard a ship, and each ship leaves port carrying an average of 4,800 vehicles.
