Peter van Agtmael
USA. Corinth, Mississippi. 2010. The funeral for Sergeant Seth Ricketts, a week after he was killed in Afghanistan. Ricketts died in an ambush on February 27, 2010, in Badghis. The province is a remote area of western Afghanistan that had been largely peaceful. He was the 997th U.S. casualty in the war. He
joined the Army the day after 9/11 and was on his fifth tour. Hundreds attended his viewing, memorial service and funeral. Others lined the convoy route, waving American flags, hands on their hearts. His family said he was born a warrior. In the first picture of him as a baby, his fists are in the air.
