Elliott Erwitt
SCOTLAND. 2011. Portcullis Gate, Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh. Portcullis Gate was constructed after the Lang Siege of 1571 -1573 and was ordered by James Douglas, 4th Earl of Morton and Regent of Scotland. Built on the ruined 14th Century Constable's Tower, the Portcullis Gate acted as a formidable obstacle to any would-be attackers.
