Eli Reed
USA. Washington, D.C. 2002. Marion BARRY is interviewed by a local cable news station. He is not fond of the news media because he equates them with unfair coverage, and with what he went through during his trial. He is still very popular and some believe that he could be elected mayor again in the next mayoral election. Current Mayor Sharon Pratt Kelly is not popular because the average black Washingtonian does not believe that she is competent in some areas nor connected with the reality of daily problems that they face. She is well liked by the white community and the black upper class in D.C. Perhaps because she is light skinned and they feel more comfortable with her for that reason. That is not talked about about very often but it is true. In some black colleges such as Howard University, there is a pecking order that is based on by the lightness of the skin color of the black students or members of the black community. This changes from time to time in its severity.
