NEPAL. Terai. 2007. Near Nepalgunj, a view of the Terai, the southern Nepali belt of lowland plains. Although they made significant inroads into the Terai lowlands towards the end of the war, the Maoist movement was primarily a hill movement. Currently, many Madhesis (the people of the Terai area), feel left out of the peace process and decision making, despite consituting over 40 percent of Nepal's population.
