If the plans to build a new Alcoa aluminium smelter at Bakki proceed, it will be right next to Bjarnason's farm. This will have a big negative impact for the Bjarnasons, with their livestock currently grazing on the proposed smelter site, and their spectacular view of the unspoilt fjord would be destroyed. Naturally, Jonas and his family are opposed to the plans.
