AFGHANISTAN. August 15, 2009. A Marine from FOB Sharp rests during a long foot patrol to inquire with locals about whether they would be voting in the upcoming election. Most laughed at the idea, saying the polling site was 20km away and they had seen no sign of the government in their district since the previous election. Also, the Taliban threatened to cut off their fingers if they voted.
