AFGHANISTAN. August 9, 2009. A Marine stands guard at a checkpoint on route 'Cowboys,' one of two main roads connecting the District Center of Garmsir to the smaller, southern towns. The Marines were at the checkpoint to observe the abilities of the local Afghan Border Patrol, who let nearly everyone through without searching their cars or their person.
