Peter van Agtmael
USA. Dover, Delaware. 2009. The 'dignified transfer' of a soldier killed in Afghanistan takes place at Dover Air Force base. Dignified Transfers are brief ceremonies wherein the bodies of soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan are repatriated to the U.S. For 18 years, the event was closed to journalists, but was lifted by Secretary of Defense Robert Gates in April, 2009.
