Leonard Freed
USA. New Orleans. 1963. The overseer sat watching the men: he never smiled, he never questioned and he spoke only when giving instruction. The men's lunch break was still ten minutes off but he had already jumped the gun and was now eating alone in the cabin of the dirt truck. He refused to look at the black work crew; he was paid to see that they worked.he was not paid to sit or eat with them.
