NICARAGUA. Masaya. September 14, 1978. National guards carried out house-to-house searches arresting any men still found, although it will never be known how many guerillas and civilians died in battle between pro Sandinista rebels and national guards. The city has been placed under martial law after three days of fierce fighting, as most of the 80,000 population fled the heart of the burning city.
