TURKEY. Anatolian civilisation. It was called the City of the Moon God "Sin", Harran (also known as Charan), is also the site of the ancient fortress of Carrhes, midway between the Tigris and the Mediterranean. It is here that the Prophet Abraham stopped on his way to Canaan. The tower on the horizon was an early observatory used for gazing at the galaxies and for worshipping the Moon God. The site is already mentioned at 2000 BC, and was mostly destroyed during the Assyrian invasion. 1983.
