Richard Kalvar
France. Paris. Designer Hervé LEGER,
In his workshop. He creates figure-hugging dresses with Lycra bands which enrobe a woman's body like an Egyptian mummy. To create a miniskirt requires at least 12 meters of strips. A dress, sold between $3000 and $4000, demands 40 hours work. "With my creations, a woman is guaranteed to find a man" he jokes, "but she must not be bigger than size 42 (...) I hate 'destroy' and 'grunge' look. They make a woman look horrible", he says. 1993
