Eli Reed
USA. Washington. Seattle. 1994. "Ice", 15, holds Devin, her five-month-old son.
"I worry that I won't be a good parent... It didn't seem realistic to me that I could get pregnant again... Having a baby saved my life. Otherwise, I'd still be on the street... I wanted somebody to love. I didn't care if it was a dog, a cat, a turtle, a frog... Ever since I've had Caitlin, I haven't felt like a teenager. I think it happened too fast..." These are the voices of a few of America's teenage mothers. They express both confidence and confusion, adult competence and teenage impulsiveness. Meanwhile, politicians and the public search for ways to offer guidance and the right kind of future that will ameliorate this widespread problem.
