WEST BANK OCCUPIED TERRITORIES. Ariel. May. 1987.
On the hilltop of the northern West Bank is a sparkling new city, a Jewish settlement of "ordinary Israelis who want a "quality of life".Immediately after the 1967 Six Day War, came the first wave of religious settlers, whose activities were approved by the secular leaders of the then Labour government as long as they could be justified for "security reasons" and were away from main arab centers of population.GUSH EMMUNIM (block of the faithful) movment, galvanised mass settlment of all of "greater Israel" advocating coexistance with the Arabs.Ariel is the fastest growing Israeli town in the West Bank which at present has 6000 residents.
