CHINA. Guilin, Guangxi. 1980. Guilin has a rainy period that begins between the third week in March and the second week in April. About two weeks afterward, the rice farmers in the area begin planting rice in wet paddies. The villages of the Yangti (shown here) and Xingping run along the Li Jiang River, and this entire area, together with Gaotian, comprise some of the most beautiful scenery in China. The influence of the beauty of Fuilin and the Huangshan Mountains in the Anhui Province on the Chinese poets and painters is immesurable.
