GB. London. Gee Street. The 'Loft' apartment of Peter Marlow and Fiona Naylor in the Clerkenwell area of London. Their home is a conversion of a complete floor of an old industrial building, built in 1952 that used to be a warehouse for silk and then later a printing works for the oil company BP. Fiona reads to Max in the evening who was then six years old, Max loved being read to at that age and particularly liked this book by Richard Scary. They are both sitting in what the family called the 'Dog Chair', which was one of the few pieces of furniture that Peter kept after his father died from his family home in Gloucestershire, where he grew up. When Peter was gtowing up this was where the family Labrador dog called 'Sue' slept.
