INDONESIA. Irian Barat. 1989. Near the village of Agats. The Asmat is a tribe that lives in south-eastern Irian Jaya, between the Barai and Trikom rivers. Approximately 70.000 Asmats live in 100 villages. Until recently families used to live together in houses 28 metres long, called "Yeus". Today families occupy separate dwellings built of pilings.
