Sarov. Diveyev Monastery. Pilgrimage.
For many years the mortal remnants of Saint Serafim of Sarov had been hidden by the Communist government. They have now been returned from the Elohov Church in Moscow back to Diveyev Monastery and hermitage. He was one of the great zealots of the Russian Orthodox Church of the 19th century. Compared to Saint Francis, Saint Serafim of Sarov (1759-1833) lived like a hermit in the Sarov forests, was consecrated as a monk in 1786, and embodies all features of the Russian Orthodox monastic spirituality.
